After a few years of partnering with Kawasaki to produce a 250cc four-stroke, Suzuki went out on their own last year, introducing a bike that was all-new and for the most part a huge hit with anyone that swung a leg over it. All of which is easy to see, as one look at the improved results of the Makita Suzuki team this season clearly illustrates that point. Because there is no sense in fixing something that isn’t broken, for 2008, the yellow team didn’t change a whole lot, and decided to focus most of their attention on refining a bike that for the most part, riders only had a few complaints about in ’07.

new Makita Suzuki rider raced the brand-new 2008 fuel-injected RM-Z450 and won both of
his heat races. This marks the first-ever race victories for a fuel-injected motocross bike.
Furthermore, Alessi made his new Makita Suzuki team even more proud by bringing home a
fifth-place finish overall in the two-night event. According to Alessi, one of his goals for the
weekend had been to improve his performance from Friday night’s fifth-place finish in Saturday
evening’s event. The 19-year-old rider did just that – picking up his first podium position on a
Suzuki, thanks to a third-place finish.

While this race did have the bigger MX1 bikes combined with the smaller displacement MX2 bikes, none of that mattered for USA’s Ryan Villopoto, as he took the holeshot, and just like qualifying on Saturday, never looked back. As for Team USA’s main rider Ricky Carmichael, he unfortunately tipped over on the first lap and found himself in dead last. Behind Villopoto, but ahead of Ricky was Germany’s Maximilian Nagle, Great Britain’s Tommy Searle, Italy’s Davide Philippaerts, and Australia’s Chad Reed in second through fifth respectively.
